Maker creates his own sporty Arduino watch

Alexis Ospitia points out that today’s technology allows us to implement a project like the watch that he built with relative ease. What he did was not simple by any means, but using an Arduino Pro Mini (ATmega328), he was able to come up with a functional design for something that would have been nearly impossible for a hobbyist only a few years ago.

Electronics-wise, besides the Pro Mini, his watch features a real-time clock unit for accurate timekeeping, as well as a temperature and humidity sensor. This can be seen in the video below, where he boots it up, then subjects it to a hairdryer to change the observed temperature and relative humidity. He then cools it off with a fan shortly after the three minute mark, where the watch responds in kind.

After bending the housing into shape, he – wisely it would seem – covered the inside with paper to insulate the electronic components inside. He then stuffed everything into the tiny watch enclosure. Certainly an impressive feat. The build was finished with leather straps attached with Phillips-head screws to create the Arduino Watch Sport.
